WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE POSTURE-CORRECTION CUSHION FOR CHILDREN?
The posture-correcting cushions for children we are recommending are tilted forward at an angle which varies between 12.2 and 13.0 depending on the age of the child. Biomechanical studies have shown, that this angle is optimal in helping keep a good posture when seated and puts as little pressure on the spine as possible. In this position an ideal balance is reached between the spine and the spinal muscles, which guarantees that the least pressure is put on these muscles when seated. This method results in spinal protection when sitting down, which can help with the prevention of bad posture and other symptoms from developing.

The posture-correcting cushions are made of a special material, which is suitably firm to enable it to exert its lifting effect, but it is also suitably flexible to provide a comfortable seat.
MEDICAL STUDY INTO THE EFFECTS OF THE POSTURE-CORRECTING CUSHION FOR CHILDREN
The company, which developed and manufactures the posture-correcting cushions for children sought the assistance of the Health Department in conducting a study of the product. On behalf of the Health Department Dr. Annamária Somhegyi examined the background literature and for the realisation of the medical analysis she asked for the assistance of Dr. János Tóth, consultant head of the orthopaedic department at Réthy Pál Hospital, Békéscsaba.
As a result of the official analysis we received the Specialist Orthopaedic Analysis on July 5th 2004. The practical findings were unanimously positive and affirms the need to start the familiarisation and use of the posture-correcting pillows in school nationwide.
Section from the report:
"School children using the cushions wee examined both at the beginning and at the end of the school year by indeopendent orthopaedic specialists, the results of the two examinations were compared and evaluated per student...
During the evaluation of the second examination the following positive changes were found:
The experineces of the teachers were unanimously positive: the pupils happily used the cushion, it increased their concentration and increased their output.
The posture, which the cushions distributed by ALVITAL Bt. provide have proven positive biomechanical effects as shown during the tests."

WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO USE THE POSTURE-CORRECTING CUSHIONS DEVELOPED FOR CHILDREN?
Being seated is particularly strenuous for the spine. The pressure exerted on the vertabrae and the discs is far greater than when standing, and this is a potential factor in relation to the development of spinal conditions. This is why we must strive to achieve the most beneficial posture when seated: we should sit with a "straight back".
While seated we are prone to being our spines forward or to sit with a "circular back", which greatly increases the strain put on the vertebrae and their discs.
The result of incorrect posture, is that the "toughness" (strength and flexibility) of muscles in the age groups of growing school children is usually inadequate and that they haven't developed a habit of correct posture or conscious self-control. Although it did not correct the problem, the old-fashioned habit of children sitting with their hands behind their backs in class did help.
Correct position is influenced by the furniture used. Most desks and chairs in schools do not meet those ergonomic requirements, which help the maintenance of a healthy posture. Due to this those whose work involves a lot of sitting are in a unfavourable and potentially harmful position, school children also fit into this category, as they spent many hours every day seated for many years.
When actively seated to protect the spine it's favourable if the pelvis is tilted forward slightly (like when standing), which can be reached if the seat tilts forward by an angle of between 10-15. Specialist furniture for this purpose exists however, for example the "kneeling stool" and the tilted-seated ergonomic chair, but these are costly, difficult to obtain and can only be used for active sitting or they're difficult to convert.
Therefore an aid or accessory is needed, which can convert furniture designed for passive sitting to meet the requirements for active seating. Apart from the effectiveness, other factors which cannot be overlooked are that it must be easy to use, comfortable and cost effective.
DIRECT AND INDIRECT ADVANTAGES
Spine-protecting posture - A sense of well-being - A decreased sense of tiredness - Increased concentration - More effective education - Less medical care required - A healthier adulthood.
THE TYPES OF POSTURE-CORRECTING CUSHIONS DEVELOPED FOR CHILDEN
Height: Up to 140cm/4'7"
(nursery school children and grade 1-3)
To suit the "tastes" of young children the cushions come with a fun and patterned cover, which helps the kids become fond of using the posture-correcting cushions.
Height: Between 130-160cm/-4'3"-5'3"
Comes with a single color cotton-textile cover. To prevent the cushions from slipping they can be secured with the bands attached.
Height: Up to 150cm/4'11"
(From 5th graders to adults)
Comes with a single color cotton-textile cover. It's implementation is the same as with the position-correcting cushions developed for adults.
